Dear Residents,
We are writing to remind residents to take extra care when securing their bicycles.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have received numerous reports of theft incidents around the COTTAM area. We received reports of a pedal cycle being stolen from the front garden at an address on The Chase on the 2nd of September and then the theft of a pedal cycle from a shed on Brampton Drive on the 4th September. Following these we then received reports of an attempt theft of stone /concrete pillar/wall toppers overnight on the 14th / 15th September on Keats Way. Also, overnight on the 14th September at around 4am we received information of a lone male wearing grey/dark tracksuit clothing loitering and fence hoping in the Minster Park area. If you have any information then please contact us quoting reference LC-20260916-1248 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bicycle theft can happen quickly, particularly when bikes are left unattended or secured with inadequate locks. Taking a few simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of theft. Please consider the following crime-prevention advice: Always use a good-quality D-lock or heavy-duty chain to secure your bicycle. Where possible, secure the frame and both wheels to a solid, fixed cycle stand. Avoid relying on inexpensive cable locks alone, as these can be easier to cut. Do not leave your bike unlocked, even if you are only going into the shop for a few minutes. Avoid leaving valuables such as lights, bags, helmets or accessories attached to your bicycle. Consider registering your bicycle and recording its frame number, photographs and identifying features. This can assist with identification and recovery if it is stolen. If available, use a busy, well-lit area with good visibility and CCTV coverage. If you see anyone acting suspiciously around bicycles, report your concerns to store staff or the police. Do not put yourself at risk or confront anyone. Remember: Lock it, record it, protect it. To reduce the risk of your pedal cycle being stolen, please read through the below advice Register your cycle for free at www.bikeregister.com Contact your local Neighbourhood Team to arrange for your cycle to be marked or visit a bike marking event that are regularly advertised. A few extra seconds spent securing your bicycle properly could prevent you from becoming a victim of theft. Thank you for helping to keep our local community safer. Please pass on this information to neighbours for their awareness. Kind regards, PC Jenny, PCSO Joe | ||
