I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle crime , which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Officers from Preston Task Force have arrested four people this morning as part of an ongoing investigation into the theft of motorbikes and pedal cycles across Preston.
A 21-year-old male, an 18-year-old male, a 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old male remain in police custody, whilst enquiries continue.
Recently, we have seen an increase in thefts of motorbikes, mopeds and pedal cycles from driveways, sheds and public spaces across Preston. We want to reassure residents that these crimes are being actively investigated, and we are continuing to target those responsible.
There are also some simple steps you can take to help protect your property:
🔑 Always remove your ignition keys, even if you're only leaving your vehicle for a short time.
🔒 Use a disc lock or D-lock to secure your bike and make it harder for thieves to wheel away.
⛓ Use a chain lock through the rear wheel and, where possible, secure it to an immovable object such as a ground anchor or lamppost.
🏍 Use a bike cover. It can make your vehicle less attractive to opportunist thieves and creates an extra obstacle.
🖊 Property mark your bike and its parts. This can make stolen property harder to sell and easier for police to identify and return if recovered.
🔊 Store your bike in a secure garage or shed with an alarm where possible, or park in a well-lit area overlooked by others.
While no security measure can guarantee your bike won't be stolen, using multiple layers of security can make your vehicle a far less attractive target.
