Cold callers in the Slyne area

On the 4th November 2025 there has been a black pick-up style vehicle (possibly a Toyota Hi-lux) driving in the Slyne area. A person on board the vehicle has attended an address on the estate and informed the resident that his gutters needed to be repaired and offered to do the repairs.

There were no offences during this incident, however the male was described as being too insistent and he challenge the resident. The property had a “No Cold Callers” sticker clearly visible which was pointed out to the male, however he disregarded it and made a sarcastic comment prior to leaving.

I wanted to send residents this email to repeat police advice which is never to employ an unknown person who knocks on your door offering to do any work.

Please thank them for making you aware of repairs that are required, and that you will ask a family member or a known trader to assess the damage. 

I would advise residents to contact three trusted companies and obtain a written quotation from each of them, so that you can obtain a competitive price and see if they all confirm what repairs are required.
