suspicious activity

Good Morning

We have come to know about a newly formed community funded project that claims to be operating around Blackburn. This group claims that it is working alongside Local Police, carrying ID cards and wearing uniform, however, this is not the case.

Recently there has been an increase in people using the title of police officers in various ways to deceive members of the public for their own gains.

If you are stopped or contacted by anyone who claims to be a police officer please ensure you carry out the following checks, especially if you believe they are impersonating an officer:

  • Write down the officers name, collar number and police station.
  • Check these details by attending in person at your local police station ( GREENBANK STATION / BLACKBURN TOWN CENTRE), calling 101 or reporting online via 101 to verify the details.
  • If you have any face to face contact and there is CCTV, this can be provided to police when reporting.
  • If possible obtain contact details for the officer so if they are genuine you can contact them again.
  •

A genuine police officer will gladly allow you time to make checks and return with the query to ensure your confidence in policing.

Fraud has become more sophisticated, we must try to do our due diligence to ourselves.

    Thank you and Stay Safe.
