Commissioner and MP walk beat in Blackburn

Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner joined officers in Blackburn town centre alongside local MP Adnan Hussain, to discuss local policing concerns, to talk about ways in which he is supporting the Constabulary to make the area safer and to see firsthand how officers are responding to community issues and crime concerns.

PCC Grunshaw and Mr Hussain also discussed their mutual commitment to combating the illegal use of e-scooters and e-bikes following the Commissioner’s lobbying of the Government on the issue and his push for clearer legislation, robust regulations, and comprehensive educational initiatives to mitigate the risks associated with them.

The visit also allowed officers to highlight the positive difference made by Operation Centurion as a results of additional foot patrols to combat anti-social behaviour in Blackburn town centre.

Following the visit, Commissioner Clive Grunshaw said:

“It was great to meet with Adnan to discuss what is being done to address the issues his constituents have raised with him, as well as having the opportunity to meet local officers and see their passion for neighbourhood policing.

“The success of Op Centurion in combating anti-social behaviour in the area and the results from Op Vulture to tackle shop-lifting are really encouraging.

“As Police and Crime Commissioner, I will continue to hold the Chief Constable to account to ensure operations such as these continue to deliver positive results for Lancashire residents.”

MP for Blackburn, Adnan Hussain said:

“It was a pleasure to meet with the Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw, last week.

“We discussed policing challenges in and around the town centre and how our offices would collaborate to tackle such issues in the near future.

“I also heard firsthand from the town centre policing team and the fantastic work they are doing in the community.

“We discussed the budget and remain optimistic that Blackburn will receive adequate funding for policing.

“I look forward to working closely with law enforcement at every level to assist them in the difficult, yet essential work they do for my constituents in Blackburn.”
